Alice Au Pays Des Merveilles

About This Show

From The Beautiful Soup Theater Collective, who has brought you innovative productions of Shakespeare’s HAMLET at The Red Room and Radio TWELFTH NIGHT at The Barrow Group, a world premiere re-telling of the classic Lewis Carroll story Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. This time, though, things are just a little bit different.

When young, American Alice follows a mime from a suburban park and into an elevator, she finds herself in a strange new world. Loosely inspired by Chagall’s painting Paris Through The Window, Alice encounters a caterpillar with no legs, two little runts with very sticky fingers, and a very naughty Queen. There’s a Caucus Race and a deck of characters that seem familiar and new at the same time. Alice frugs with the familiar characters to her heart’s content and re-discovers the joys of being a kid.

Stretching the limit of our adult imaginations and creating an entirely new Wonderland, Alice Au Pays Des Merveilles features a cast of 15 made up of ages 13-60! With a shoestring budget, a ladder and a hoop skirt or two, this production forces you to rekindle your love with The Kid Inside.

With original music by composer Laura Intravia, familiar tunes from Michael Legrand and a world premiere adaptation by playwright-director Steven Carl McCasland (HAMLET – The Red Room. Radio TWELFTH NIGHT – The Barrow Group, workshops of CROSSING BROOKLYN and BLACK & BLUE in New York), the production will delight audiences of all ages and backgrounds.

$5.00 of every ticket sold benefits Project Night-Night, donates over 25,000 Night Night Packages each year, free of charge, to homeless children who need our childhood essentials to feel secure, cozy, ready to learn, and significant. Each Night Night Package contains a new security blanket, an age-appropriate children’s book, and a stuffed animal — all nestled inside of a new canvas tote bag. By providing objects of reliable comfort, Project Night Night reduces trauma and advances the emotional and cognitive well-being of the children we serve.
