About This Show

Juan Diego Flórez makes his Carnegie Hall debut. Pianist Vincenzo Scalera will
accompany Mr. Florez in a program slated to include works by Mozart, Rossini, Rosa Mercedes Ayarza de Morales, Fauré, Massenet, Bizet, and Donizetti.

Since his professional debut at age 23, Juan Diego Florez has conquered stages
throughout the world, causing a sensation. His schedule takes him regularly to the most distinguished lyric theaters, and his acclaimed Decca recordings have only added to his reputation. Born in Lima, the son of a well-known singer of Peruvian folksongs, Mr. Flórez began his musical studies there and subsequently won a scholarship to Philadelphia’s Curtis Institute. The artist made his debut in Matilde di Shabran at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro; the performance was a triumph for the young tenor and important debuts, including at La Scala, quickly followed.

Here in New York, the Metropolitan Opera calls Juan Diego Flórez “the greatest Rossini tenor of our time.” Mr. Flórez made his house debut in 2002, generating huge ovations from the sophisticated New York audience prior even to his 30th birthday. He’s since become a prominent Met artist – he starred in the company’s new production of Rossini’s Barber of Seville in November, with a radio broadcast set for March – and he is beloved of audiences hungry for a level of vocal artistry seldom heard anywhere.

This event has been rescheduled. All tickets purchased for the original date in December have already been refunded at point-of purchase and are not valid for the March 10 performance.
