Topics roam a diverse landscape, from aesthetics and nuts-and-bolts technical matters, to wider issues of funding, business, and politics.

Fundraising 101, 12-2pm
Lani Kennedy introduces the components of a successful funding campaign, including research and cultivation of prospects, project conception, grantwriting, and a calendar of activities. She discusses the roles of the artist, staff, and board in the process.

Turkar Coker offers a spectrum of exercises, games, and techniques drawn from the influence of the work of Augusto Boal, Bertolt Brecht, and Richard Schechner.

Barbara S. Miller leads this session which addresses boards. If you don’t yet have a board come find out from others what pitfalls to avoid, and what a really good board can look like.

Story Telling: Weaving Words, Music, & Movement, 12-2pm
Abena Appiah-Kubi Koomson and Cozi Sa Wala from Magic Words present this workshop. Influenced by the dissonance and unresolved themes of Thelonius Monk’s compositions, Ella Fitzerald’s performance clarity, the insights of poetry professor Hugh Ogden, and the voyeurism of German expressionist painting, Ms. Koomson’s work explores personal and global narratives through song, movement and rhythm.

Public Relations & Marketing on the Fringe, 12-2pm
Ron Lasko, Fringe publicist, talks about everything you always wanted to know about theater PR & Marketing, but were afraid to ask. Learn the basics of public relations, from writing releases that get attention to getting critics to see your show.

Nobody Wants to See Another Solo Show, 12-2pm
Solo performer Antonio Sacre leads this workshop, asking how can we make what’s in our heads and hearts into personal and immediate live performance? In an hour of writing and an hour of exchange, participants explore what we’d do if we knew we couldn’t fail, and how to make it theatrically exciting and challenging.

Barbara Hogue leads this workshop on how to stay true to your mission without compromising your artistic integrity.

Exploring the Collaborative Process, 12-2pm
Lynn Neuman & Amy Drum of Ho-Down Showdown lead this workshop. Rooted in jazz improv traditions, the work focuses on movement, comedy, and character portrayal, exploring various methods of creating physically-based theater that optimize collaborative input. Each participant is responsible for bringing an article of inspiration, i.e. a picture, object, written article, or story creating movement and character sketches.

Julia Lee Barclay of Word to Your Mama uses techniques inspired by Burroughs / Gysin of cutting and pasting everyday words and phrases. Participants create improvisational texts and movement/gestures, dealing with issues of gender, religion and class, with a special emphasis on levels of address and presences.
