David Oquendo started Raíces Habaneras to rescue and preserve the pure form and essence of Cuban rhythms. His Latin jazz and salsa is an energizing performance of rhythm and sound. Discover the origins of Cuban percussion that transformed music in New York through Chano Pozo, the bands of Machito, Dizzy Gillespie and Tito Puente, and touched Santana. David has played worldwide, including concerts at Avery Fisher Hall, Beacon Theatre, and at the JVC and Montreal Jazz Festivals, with such music giants as Paquito D’Rivera and Michelle Camilo.
