About the Show

The Fifth Annual New Directions Festival showcases emerging directors as they perfect their craft by working on ten minute, one-act, and full-length plays across the spectrum of Asian American drama.

FRIDAY, MARCH 24 at 7PM, SATURDAY, MARCH 25 at 7PM

A Shadow of the Moon by Michael Golamco

A new play-in-progress by the author of Cowboy Versus Samurai. The past and future of three siblings’ lives collide as they struggle to determine the fate of the restaurant their parents once owned. Brian Balcom directs.

SUNDAY, MARCH 26 at 7PM, SUNDAY, APRIL 2 at 7PM

FOP (Fresh Off The Plane) by Sean Lim

A new play, inspired by David Henry Hwang’s FOB (Fresh Off The Boat), and set in 2006. James, Joyce, and Ulysses, three twenty-somethings, explore their Korean and Korean American identities on a plane ride to Korea. Hoping to reclaim the baggage their parents lost on their way to America, these characters discover that traveling begins with what you must leave behind. Randy Reyes directs.

Jade Flowerpots & Bound Feet by David Hwang and Nicholas Cage Is Not His Real Name by Hal Cropp

Two ten minute plays investigating authenticity in today’s society. Eric Sumangil directs.

Dipped In Love by Sarah Jane Moore

A new play-in-progress that follows the transformation of three women’s lives by loss, love, and the power of their friendships. Jennifer Weir directs.
