About This Show

Children of Uganda is an award-winning dance troupe of twenty Ugandan children ages 8-18 orphaned by HIV/AIDS. The troupe has traveled throughout the USA since 1994. Through its exuberant performances and hands-on activities, the troupe’s 2004 tour is projected to raise $1 million to support orphans in Uganda while increasing global awareness of AIDS and its devastating impact on children. The group’s three-month tour includes stops in twelve states.

Selected as “Best Performers” at the International Children’s Festival at Wolf Trap in Washington DC, the group has also participated in a number of special events – performing for (former) Treasury Secretary Paul O’Neill during his trip to Africa, for the World Bank, MTV, and Nike, appearing on the David Letterman Show, and most recently, performing for the Grammy Awards’ MusiCares benefit saluting U-2’s Bono in February 2003. Previous tours have included stops at The Kennedy Center, the White House, Macy’s Passport in San Francisco and Los Angeles. In 2002, these talented performers raised $670,000 to support their fellow orphans.
