The Emmy- award nominated American Indian Dance Theatre present its theatrical celebration of Native American culture, music and dance. Formed in May 1987, the company brings together eighteen Native American dancers, singers, and drummers in a rare and unified representation of more than ten different North American tribes. The show, Kotuwokan, which means “come celebrate the dance” in the Algonquin language, lives up to its name in a joyous celebration that triumphantly blends traditional American Indian dance forms with fresh, innovative ideas. The audience experiences not a distant tradition, but one that is evolving with the times and rising to meet the challenges of the modern age.
