Ann Arbor’s Michigan Theater celebrates its 75th anniversary with a concert presentation of Follies, a musical masterpiece by Stephen Sondheim and James Goldman. Set at a reunion of follies showgirls in a vintage vaudeville theater, this Tony-winning musical is full of youthful ghosts, fond memories, and reprises by aging artists who brought the theater to life in its heydey. The story focuses on four middle-aged characters: Ben, Buddy, Phyllis, and Sally, haunted by the ghosts of their former selves. This concert production stars Kurt Peterson, Harvey Evans, Virginia Sandifur, and Marti Rolph, who starred in the original 1971 Broadway production as the characters’ younger selves, now each playing the older version of that same part. Broadway legend and Detroit native Donna McKechnie is also featured, returning home to sing the famed showbiz anthem “I’m Still Here.”
