Music Director Grant Llewellyn and the Grammy Award-winning Handel and Haydn Society offer a rousing selection of works by Mozart and Haydn. British soprano Sally Matthews makes her Boston debut. The most spectacularly orchestrated of his sacred music, Mozart’s “Mass in C Minor” features double chorus, orchestra, and soloists. Richly expressive and teaming with virtuoso coloratura passages, Haydn’s “Ave Regina,” highlights Sally Matthews, “a name to look out for” in 2004 (Michael Church, The Independent).
The Handel and Haydn Society specializes in music for chorus and orchestra composed in the Baroque and Classical eras, and offers historically informed performances, in which music is played on the instruments and with the techniques available to the composers in their time.
