An annual favorite at the A.R.T., The Island of Anyplace has introduced thousands of children to the magic of live theatre. The main character, Jennifer, has been dragged to the theatre by her father. At first she’d rather be home watching TV — but when she takes on the roles of playwright and director herself, Jennifer discovers that her imagination can take her to magical places inhabited by interesting creatures and people. The Island of Anyplace illustrates the various elements of theatre — acting, directing, dialogue, makeup, scenery, costumes, lights, sound, etc. — in an entertaining context. Each year the graduating class of the Institute for Advanced Theatre Training at Harvard takes on the roles of Jennifer and the menagerie of creatures and island inhabitants.
