About the Show

Major Barbara is one of George Bernard Shaw’s brightest, slyest, most provocatively outrageous comedies. In 1905, Shaw’s play managed to anticipate the arms race of the 20th century. A munitions maker makes a shambles of the morality of liberalism. To him the most shameful sin is poverty and the cardinal virtue is prosperity. His daughter, Barbara has dedicated herself to the Salvation Army and the squalor of the poor. Tempers flare and sparks fly as father and daughter face off. Jacques Cartier directs.
