A Valentine That Spans a Lifetime: Andrew Makepeace Ladd III and Melissa Gardner, both born to wealth and position, are childhood friends whose lifelong correspondence begins with birthday party thank-you’s and summer camp postcards. Romantically attached, their letters over many years provide significant and often heartbreaking insight into loves gained and lost, emotional ups and downs, plus career successes and failures.
