About This Show

In support of the devleopment process, Passage Theatre mounts workshop productions of new plays. These are productions where the actors have rehearsed for a week (compared to the 3-4 weeks for a full mainstage production) with a director and the playwright.

Minimal sets and props are used. At the end of the rehearsal process, an audience is invited to attend a brief series of performances (usually 3-4 consecutive nights) with the actors performing on their feet with script in hand. Audience members are invited to “talk back” to the playwright at the end of each performance.

The 2007-8 workshop season includes:

Horrible, Random Thoughts About Love
Written by David L. White
September 27-30, 2007
A snappy comedy about the ghastly things that happen to people in pursuit of love.

Pa’s Hat: Liberian Legacy
Written by Cori Thomas
January 24-27, 2008
Civil unrest, national heritage and family responsibility converge in this one-act drama that follows an elderly former ambassador and his daughter as they return to war-torn Liberia and are abducted by a child soldier.

Reparations: The Musical
Written by Joseph Edwards
February 14-17, 2008
A soulful musical “dramedy” about an ambitious lawyer arguing a case against reparations who reclaims his lost soul through the intervention of his African ancestors.
