About This Show

He was personal secretary to W.H. Auden, and roommate of young Tennessee Williams. He traveled with Kerouac and Ginsberg, and is still writing poetry in San Francisco today. His name is Harold Norse and in many ways he represents all men of that generation. Underground Love: The Poetry of Harold Norse, Erotic and Not is a play in five moments for five actors. We meet a young man in Brooklyn during World War II who matures as a dockworker in the American South in the 50’s. It traces his travels to France, Morocco, and Guatemala as he pursues most beautiful loves and all manners of pleasure. Ultimately, Norse returns to America, a new carnal world. The final pieces of the play reflect the amazement, wisdom, joy, and sorrows of old age.

There is no performance on Wednesday, June 18.
