Chicago Opera Theater presents the Chicago premiere of Nixon in China, by John Adams, conducted by Alexander Platt. James Robinson directs this production revived by Kevin Newbury.

This contemporary American opera radically reinvented the notion of musical drama upon its premiere in 1987. Based on the former President’s visit to China in 1972, it provides a profound examination of the human struggles of two couples — Richard and Pat Nixon and Chairman Mao and his wife. A rich and rhythmic blend of music, theatre and politics like you never thought possible.
