New York City
McKinley Johnson’s Being Beautiful is a sensitive story of lifestyle choices. This play (with music by Stephanie Newsome) follows the journey through the life and times of a young man named Afton. After fleeing to the big city of Chicago, Afton meets the stunning Ms. Lonette, a show club owner, mentor, and female impersonator who teaches him some meaningful lessons — the kind that speak to pride, courage, and love of family.
