A one-woman tour de force that takes place during a chaotic baby shower in Caguas, Puerto Rico. The story centers on 17-year-old Andrea, a sharp and observant teenager who returns to her dysfunctional family after months away. Over the course of one sweltering afternoon, Andrea navigates a volatile reunion with her pregnant half-sister Sabrina, an explosive confrontation with her former lover Junior—who is also Sabrina’s husband—and the haunting presence of Doña Maltita, a matriarch clinging to order and denial. As Andrea wrestles with shame, love, and the secret she’s been hiding, she is forced to confront the impossible choice between staying in a place that has shaped her or leaving to become someone else. The show features biting monologues, musical shifts, physical transformation, and the embodiment of layered Puerto Rican voices—from the sacred to the profane. At its core, the play explores the themes of generational trauma, womanhood, addiction, poverty, and the bittersweet grief of leaving home to survive. Performed with sharp humor and brutal tenderness, Puerto Rico es una Cama Twin is a powerful portrait of a young woman daring to imagine a life beyond inherited chaos.
