About This Show

The Persephone Project blends ancient Greek traditions with modern physical theatrical forms. It explores a young woman’s journey from the innocence of female sanctity to the painful awakening of the cruelty of male violence. It involves a journey through the lives of the Greek gods — from Mount Olympus, to the underworld, to the ancient priestess rituals of the Elysian rites, to the barren earth — using physical theater techniques to create a quality production that uses imagination and spectacle to capture the primal and epic story of mother and daughter. Masks, originally composed songs, and dance take us into an ancient world where actor’s bodies transform space and mythic storytelling comes alive.
