New York City
This side-splitting evening of comedy is sure to raise the roof! Started in 1992 by rap mogul Russell Simmons, HBO’s Def Comedy Jam stood out from the norm of televised comedy by showcasing exclusively black stand-ups and emphasizing the deliverance of blue jokes. On a weekly basis the series of raunchy spouts would awaken the Def Comedy Jam audience into a frenzy of uncontrollable laughter, flying straight into the subject of political correctness and driving a new and much needed look into African-American life, class and gender roles. The show includes Joe Torry, former host of Def Comedy Jam, Guy Torry, and Tony Rock (Chris Rock’s brother).
