About the Show

Based on the award-winning book, true-account book, In the Land of the Grasshopper Song tells the heartwarming story follows the adventures of two women who set out from the East Coast in 1908 to be "field matrons" for the Karuk Indian Tribe of Northern California. Dispatched by the United States government, our heroines traveled by horseback, by foot and in a dugout canoe to reach their destination. Once there, they were the only white women in the sixty-mile stretch of territory. After two years of service, they left with profound affection and respect for the people they had lived among. Their journey has been brought to theatrical life by the Dell’Arte Company, the result is a delightful and captivating production the entire family can enjoy.
