Theatreworks continues it’s 35th season with the world premiere of A Little Princess, a new musical.
Daughter of a wealthy gentleman, Sara Crewe is treated like a little princess. On the eve of a hazardous journey, her father, a renowned adventurer, consigns his spirited daughter to a London girls school, but not before reinforcing her faith in the redmeptive power of imagination, and her special place in his heart. Enrolled at Miss Minchin’s school in Victorian England, Sara regales classmates with phantasmagorical tales. However, when her father is reported killed in action, Sara’s charming life takes a dramatic turn and she is forced to become a servant. Relying upon her beliefs in magic and in her inner royalty as a stay against the tyranical efforts to shame her and stamp out spirit, Sara bravely meets all challenges with the courage and dignity of a true little princess.
Based on Frances Hodgson Burnett’s novel, directed by Susan H. Schulman with a score by Andrew Lippa and book by Brian Crawley.
There are additional performances on September 4th and 18th at 2pm and August 29th and September 12th at 7pm.
