Soul UpRising Productions presents the West Coast premiere of Nelsan Narie Ellis’s play, UGLy, a story of unconditional love and how it masks a multitude of sins.
UGLy is based on the true story of Alice Marie, a casualty of the epidemic of domestic violence that claims a reputed three million lives a year and is the number one cause of murder of African-American women. UGLy is about the emotional destruction of loved ones who’ve suffered a loss and the complexities of love’s bond. It sheds light on the experiences of women trapped in the struggle between love and pain.
