San Gabriel Valley Music Theatre presents The Sound of Music.
Maria Rainer had longed to be a nun since she was a young girl, yet when she became old enough, she discovered that it wasn’t at all what she thought. A postulant often in trouble, Maria is eventually sent to the home of a very wealthy, retired naval captain and strict disciplinarian, Captain Georg von Trapp. Widowed several years before, von Trapp needs Maria to care for his seven unruly children, who quietly yearn for their father’s love and affection. By teaching the children to sing, Maria also provides opportunities for the young von Trapps to define their individuality and value the simple treasures in life. Through Maria’s efforts, music is brought back into the hearts and home of the von Trapp family. Captain von Trapp recognizes what he has been overlooking in his children and also falls in love with Maria, culminating in a heartwarming marriage and new beginnings for all.
