New York City
In a celestial weigh-station that is the setting of Tony Tanner’s The Oedipus Tree, Laius, the father of Oedipus, with the help of a bland interlocutor, is forced to examine the past, the present, and the future as it concerns himself, his son, and his wife Jocasta. This unholy triangle, guilty, albeit unknowingly of patricide and incest, comes eventually to a place where acceptance, reconciliation and reunion is possible, free at last from guilt and their own stained mortality.
