The Nina Variations

The Company Rep presents the Southern California premiere of Steven Dietz’s The Nina Variations, directed by Hope Alexander.

“I am a seagull.” So says aspiring actress Nina to young writer Treplev in their famous final scene in Chekov’s play of the same name. In this funny, fierce and heartbreaking homage to The Seagull, Steven Dietz puts Chekhov’s star-crossed lovers in a room and doesn’t let them out. In forty-three variations on their famous final scene, Nina and Treplev, pit their vibrant wit and soaring passions against one another in a fast-paced tour de force of romantic entanglement. Mr. Dietz gives the director free rein over the casting of the piece and this production features three Nina’s (Bobbi Stamm, Khamara Pettus and Maria Kress) and a middle-aged Treplev (Alan Altshuld) haunted by the memory of them all!
