About This Show

Songs For A New World has been described as falling between a musical and a song cycle. Influenced by pop, jazz, gospel and classical music styles, the show’s nineteen musical numbers have a thematic through-line: The songs deal with dreams and whether we are courageous enough to dare to fulfill them, or make the choice to compromise our dreams out of fear. Characters are historical and fictional, ranging from Christopher Columbus (seeking THE New World) and Revolutionary flagmaker Betsy Ross, to modern made-up characters like the woman who disappoints herself by marrying for wealth instead of for love, or the young hoops player determined to utilize his athletic prowess as his way out of his depressed neighborhood.
