Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet receives a new staging by Sir Peter Hall for the Ahmanson. A mortal feud between two families, the Montagues and the Capulets, sets the stage for the tragedy that follows as young Romeo falls in love with the fair Juliet. When Romeo’s friend Mercutio is killed by Juliet’s cousin Tybalt in a street brawl, Romeo exacts revenge by killing Tybalt. Romeo is then banished for his actions which creates the setting for the play’s heartbreaking conclusion.
