New York City
Mamma Mia! will enjoy its first visit to the glorious Pantages Theatre in Hollywood, where it will play a limited engagement beginning April 22, 2004.
With a book by Catherine Johnson, direction by Phyllida Lloyd, and choreography by Anthony Van Laast, Mamma Mia! has established itself as one of L.A.’s favorite stage musical treats! At both the original Los Angeles engagement at the Shubert Theatre, and this year’s return engagement at the Ahmanson Theatre, sold-out crowds could be seen dancing in the aisles to the infectious beat of 22 of ABBA’s best known songs.
Mamma Mia!, a funny, poignant tale of family and friendship, became a smash hit in London immediately following its opening on April 6, 1999. Through the story-telling magic of the ABBA songs, we meet Donna, a feisty forty-something single mom, who recalls distant memories of carefree days and careless nights, while her daughter Sophie dreams of tradition, romance and a big white wedding.
Featuring a book by Catherine Johnson, Mamma Mia! is directed by Phyllida Lloyd and choreographed by Anthony Van Laast. Production design is by Mark Thompson, lighting design by Howard Harrison, sound design by Andrew Bruce and Bobby Aitken, and musical supervision by Martin Koch.
