About the Show

The Bare Bones Theatre Company presents Tony Tanner’s one-man show Charlatan, a memoir of the fabled Russian impresario, Sergei Diaghilev. Responsible for the Paris debut of the Russian Ballet, with its extraordinary roster of stars — including Nijinsky, Pavlova and Karsavina, Diaghilev started an arts revolution in Europe, which still resonates today.

In the course of twenty subsequent years, he swept into the service of his company Picasso, Cocteau and Matisse as designers, Stravinsky, Debussy, Ravel as composers of original music and legendary choreographers Michael Fokine, Leonide Massine and George Balanchine to arrange dances that are still being performed today by companies all over the world. The personal memoir includes insights into Diaghilev’s romantic attachments to both Massine and Nijinsky, and a harrowing account of the latter man’s descent into madness.

There will be a special Sunday matinee on November 7. Call the box office for more information.
