About the Show

In 1980, an event occurred that, without exaggerating, changed the face of Broadway “now and forever.” A noteworthy young Brit who had previously been best known for composing a couple of popular musicals based on Biblical themes, saw his Cats, an elaborate stage musical interpretation of poems by T.S. Eliot, cross the Atlantic and light Broadway’s Wintergarden Theatre. Those feline characters continued to strut and prance in their fantasy junkyard domain for over two decades, reaching into the new century, finally claiming the right to be called “the longest running show in Broadway history.”
