Charles Messina’s drama recounts growing up with an Italian-American family.
Stage and screen favorites Mario Cantone (Steve) and Ralph Macchio (The Karate Kid) will headline the world premiere of Charles Messina's new play, A Room of My Own. The Abingdon Theatre Company production begins previews February 13 at the June Havoc Theatre, with opening night set for February 25. The run is scheduled to conclude March 13.
A Room of My Own is a semiautobiographical work in which Messina recounts growing up in an eccentric Italian-American family in Greenwich Village. Macchio plays Carl Morelli, a writer reminiscing about his adolescence in the cramped apartment that he shared with his family. Cantone plays his flamboyant Uncle Jackie.
Additional casting will be announced. The production features scenic design by Brian Dudkiewicz, costume design by Catherine Siracusa, lighting design by Mike Megliola, and sound design by Ian Wehrle.
