Christian Borle to Direct New York Premiere of James Hindman's Popcorn Falls
Adam Heller and Tom Souhrada will share over 20 roles at the Davenport Theatre.
James Hindman's Popcorn Falls will have its New York premiere this fall at the Davenport Theatre, directed by two-time Tony winner Christian Borle (Something Rotten!, Peter and the Starcatcher) in his New York directorial debut. Borle reunites with Hindman, having previously collaborated on the premiere of Popcorn Falls at the Riverbank Theatre in Marine City, Michigan. The off-Broadway production will begin performances September 14 ahead of an October 8 opening.
Popcorn Falls is described as follows: "Welcome to Popcorn Falls, a small American town, whose only claim to fame — their namesake waterfall — has dried up. Now bankrupt, their last chance is a large grant that can only be used if the town produces a play in a week. One big problem: ain't no playhouse. Another problem? Ain't no play. Led by the Mayor and the local handyman, the enterprising townsfolk try to rise to the challenge and prove that art can change the world."
Popcorn Falls will feature Adam Heller (It Shoulda Been You) and Tom Souhrada (Desperate Measures), performing over 20 roles in under 90 minutes. The creative team includes scenic design by Timothy Mackabee, lighting design by Jeff Croiter, costume design by Joseph La Corte, and original music composed by Jeffrey Lodin.
