The new company aims to bring accessible classical theater to Jersey City.
Artistic director Sean Hagerty has announced the first production of the inaugural season of the new Jersey City, New Jersey-based company Shakespeare@: Hamlet, running March 28-April 14 at the Theater at Grace Church Van Vorst, with opening night set for Sunday, March 31.
"Jersey City is a perfect place to offer Shakespeare," Hagerty said in a statement. "There's nothing like it here right now. In the past 10 years, there has been so much great change. It's an exciting time to be here."
The production stars Jonathan Forbes (Amazon's Catastrophe) as Hamlet, Eden Brolin (Freeform's Beyond) as Ophelia, Andrew Sellon (Gotham) as Polonius, Aria Shaghasemi (CW's Legacies) as Laertes, and Mark Torres (NBC's Manifest) as Claudius. Rounding out the cast are Thia Stephan, Francis Mateo, Fernando Hernández, André Revels, Tenzin Yeshi, Mark Jonathan Quiles, Alice Marks, Wesli Spencer, and Robert Steven Anderson.
The creative team includes Joan Melton (original music, voice and speech coach), Sarah Johnston (lighting design), Anne-Marie Wright (costumes), Donghyuk Chang (sound design), Brad Lemons (fight director), Robin Carus (casting), and Sydney Steele (associate producer).
