Obie Award winner John Clancy will direct the world premiere of The Invitation, written by Brian Parks. The production, presented by Wordmonger, will play the Ohio Theater, September 5-27, with an opening on September 10.

The play concerns a group of highly successful friends at a birthday-dinner celebration that takes an abrupt, peculiar turn.

The play will star David Calvitto, Leslie Farrell, Katie Honacker, Paul Urcioli, and Eva von Dok. The creative team will include Rose A.C. Howard (set and costumes) and Eric Southern (lighting).

Clancy’s directing credits include Parks’ Americana Absurdum, Don Nigro’s Cincinnati, his own play Fatboy, and the UK premiere of Midnight Cowboy. He is also the co-founder of FringeNYC, and was awarded The New York Magazine Award in 1997 for “creativity, enterprise and vision.” Parks’ other plays include the award-winning Americana Absurdum, Goner, and Suspicious Package.
