The Alley Theatre has announced the productions that comprise its 2012-2013 season.
John Tyson will star as President Charles Smith in David Mamet’s political satire, November (August 24-September 23). James Black will portray Willy Loman in Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman (September 28-October 28).
The new year will begin with Katori Hall’s recent Broadway hit The Mountaintop (January 11- February 3), a gripping re-imagining of events the night before the assassination of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Bruce Norris’ Pulitzer Prize-winning play Clybourne Park (January 18- February 17) unfolds in the same North Chicago house that figures prominently in the 1959 classic, A Raisin in the Sun.
The Alley will also stage productions of Aaron Sorkin’s coutroom drama A Few Good Men (March 1-24); Bernard Pomerance’s The Elephant Man (April 12-May 5), based on the life of John Merrick; Kenneth Lin’s Warrior Class (May 3-June 2), about a New York assemblyman who’s been dubbed “The Republican Obama”; and Jeffrey Hatcher’s Sherlock Holmes and the Adventure of the Suicide Club (May 24-June 23), with Todd Waite at the titular detective.
In addition, The Alley will present the holiday productions, A Christmas Carol – A Ghost Story of Christmas (November 16-December 24), adapted and originally directed by Michael Wilson, and now directed by James Black, and David Sedaris’ The Santaland Diaries (November 24-December 30), adapted for the stage by Joe Mantello, directed by David Cromer, and starring Todd Waite as Crumpet the Elf.
