Auberjonois, Brooks, Page Set for Shakespeare Theatre Season
Rene Auberjonois, Avery Brooks, and Patrick Page will be among the performers for Washington D.C.’s Shakespeare Theatre Company’s 2007-2008 season.
The company will now use the Harman Center for the Arts, consisting of two theaters: its current home, the 451-seat Lansburgh Theatre, and the 775-seat Sidney Harman Hall, which is scheduled to open on October 1. In addition, the company will expand its schedule to eight productions, including two repertory series — one devoted to Christopher Marlowe and the other to Shakespeare.
The STC season will begin with Rebecca Bayla Taichman’s production of The Taming of the Shrew (September 25-November 25). Next up is the Marlowe repertory: Michael Kahn’s production of the playwright’s first work Tamburlaine with Brooks in the title role (October 28-January 6) and Gale Edwards’ production of Edward II (October 27-January 6).
The season continues with Tony Award winner Mary Zimmerman’s Argonautika (January 15-March 2), first produced by Chicago’s Lookingglass Theatre, and Ethan McSweeney’s production of George Bernard Shaw’s classic Major Barbara (February 19-March 23).
Page, currently staring on Broadway in The Lion King, will play Marc Antony in two different Shakespeare works, Julius Caesar, directed by David Muse (April 27-July 6), and Antony and Cleopatra, to be directed by Kahn (April 26-July 6).
The season will conclude with Keith Baxter’s production of Moliere’s The Imaginary Invalid in which Auberjonois will make his company debut (June 10-August 3).
