Classic Stage Company celebrated the opening night of its production of Uncle Vanya last night. Here’s film star Jake Gyllenhaal greeting two of the show’s equally famous stars, his sister Maggie Gyllenhaal (who plays Yelena) and her partner Peter Sarsgaard, who portrays the doctor Astrov.
Vanya‘s director Austin Pendleton cuddled up to Denis O’Hare, who plays the title role in the show.
Mamie Gummer, who portrays Sonya, was greeted by sister Grace.
F. Murray Abraham (right) posed with George Morfogen, who plays Serebryakov.
Veteran actor Louis Zorich has a memorable turn as family retainer Telegin.
Zorich’s wife, Academy Award winner Olympia Dukakis, will star later this season in The Public Theater’s production of Craig Lucas’ The Singing Forest.
Opening night brought out several stars, including the lovely Claire Danes, who recently got engaged to longtime beau Hugh Dancy.
Mandy Patinkin, who recently starred in CSC’s revival of The Tempest, came with wife Kathryn Grody.
Tony winner Bill Irwin will return to Broadway later this season in the Roundabout’s Waiting for Godot.
Linda Emond, who appeared with Maggie Gyllenhaal in BAM’s production of Tony Kushner’s Homebody/Kabul, was another welcome opening night guest.
Finally, here’s veteran actor Larry Pine, who played the role of Astrov in Andre Gregory’s famed Vanya on 42nd Street.
