Stephanie J. Block, Will Chase, Chita Rivera and Company of The Mystery of Edwin Drood Record Cast Album

The stars of Roundabout Theatre Company’s revival took a field trip to Astoria, Queens to lay down tracks for the double-disc release.

The cast of Roundabout Theatre Company’s revival of Rupert Holmes’ The Mystery of Edwin Drood headed from Broadway to KAS Recording in Astoria, Queens on Monday, December 10 to lay down tracks for the production’s upcoming cast album, which is expected to be released this coming January by DRG Records. Grammy Award winner Hugh Fordin produces the disc, with Paul Gemignani as musical director.

Running at Studio 54 through March 10 under the direction of Scott Ellis, the musical features a Tony Award-winning book and score by Holmes. Inspired by the final, unfinished novel of the same name by Charles Dickens, the work follows a group of English musical hall actors as they present their version of the tale, with the audience determining the murderer of the title character, the identity of mysterious detective Dick Datchery, and the two characters who will become lovers.

The double-disc cast recording will feature the musical’s new second-act opener, “An English Music Hall,” the previously unrecorded “Jasper’s Vision/Smoke Ballet,” and eight separate tracks featuring the confessions of each potential murderer.

Tony Award-winners Chita Rivera (Chicago) and Jim Norton (The Seafarer) lead the company as The Princess Puffer and The Chairman, respectively, with Stephanie J. Block (The Boy From Oz) as Edwin Drood, Will Chase (High Fidelity) as John Jasper, Betsy Wolfe (Everyday Rapture) as Rosa Bud, Jessie Mueller (Into the Woods) as Helena Landless, Andy Karl (Legally Blonde) as Neville Landless, Gregg Edelman (Wonderful Town) as the Reverend Mr. Crisparkle, Robert Creighton (Anything Goes) as Durdles, Peter Benson (The Pajama Game) as Bazzard, and Nicholas Barasch (West Side Story) as Deputy. The ensemble includes Alison Cimmet, Nick Corley, Janine DiVita, Jenifer Foote, Justin Greer, Shannon Lewis, Spencer Plachy, Kiira Schmidt, Eric Sciotto, Jim Walton, and Cody Williams.
