Lee Blessing and Ellen McLaughlin Premieres Set for Red Bull's Short New Play Festival
The festival's eight new plays are united under the theme "Uncontrolled Passions."
Red Bull Theater will present Uncontrolled Passions, this year's iteration of the annual Short New Plays Festival. The one night only event will take place at the Lucille Lortel Theatre on July 13 at 7:30 pm.
The event will feature eight world premieres by Lee Blessing, Ellen McLaughlin, Matt Barbot, Dipika Guha, Stephen Massicotte, Jason Gray Platt, Aubrey Saverino, and Matthew Wells. Directors slated to participate include May Adrales and Evan Yionoulis with David Barlow, Jeff Biehl, Jeremy Bobb, Deborah S. Craig, Ray Dooley, Susannah Flood, Sam Lilja, Maria Christina Oliveras, Erin Wilhelmi, and more.
Each year, Red Bull Theater selects "new works of heightened language and classical themes" from over 300 submissions and commission two for the Short New Plays Festival. Inspired this year by the theme "Uncontrolled Passions," this year's writers have delivered "wildly diverse tales, catapulting classical theater into the future."
Red Bull Theater aims to "engage the intellect and imagination of today's theatergoers through intimate and evocative stagings of great classic stories from all eras and cultures."
