Plays by Rich Rubin, Jackie Roberts Set for Castillo Theatre's Mario Fratti-Fred Newman Political Play Reading Series logo
The Castillo Theatre is set to present a reading series featuring the four winning scripts from the 2012 Mario Fratti-Fred Newman Political Play Contest, selected from over 200 entries including submissions by playwrights from around the world. Readings will take place Mondays, August 6-27 at 7pm.

The series will include Barbara Bennion's Flowers Behind the Mountain (August 6), the story of five immigrants from Mexico, Columbia, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Chile as they cross the border to the United States, directed by J.J El-Far. Woodie King, Jr. will direct Rich Rubin's Cottonwood in the Flood (August 13), the story of one African-American family that brings to life a time and place where America's nobler ideals and its history of racial injustice collided head-on.

The series continues with Being Moved (August 20) by Stephanie Glass Solomon, a celebration of romance as an older adult, directed by Mary Beth Easley. Finally, David F. Chapman will direct dreams heavier than air, Jackie Roberts' story of a town in Maine whose white working class and Somali Muslim inhabitants must find a way to make ends meet and to live together.
