On Sunday, July 29, the New York Musical Theater Festival (NYMF) celebrated the completion of the season with an awards presentation and party at Hudson Terrace. The month-long festival, which ran July 9-29, featured 34 musical productions and special events. Robert Moses hosted, while Donna Lynne Champlin presented the awards.
Outstanding Individual Performance awards were presented to Enrique Acevedo (Zapata! The Musical), Jessica Burrows (Himself and Nora), Tom Deckman (Arnie The Doughnut), Michelle Federer (How Deep Is The Ocean?), Jeff Keller (A Letter To Harvey Milk), Ryan Kelly (Living With Henry), Leslie Kritzer (A Letter To Harvey Milk), Jillian Louis (Flambé Dreams), Jeigh Madjus (Prison Dancer), Kevin B. McGlynn (Flambé Dreams), Stacey Sargeant (Central Avenue Breakdown), Haley Selmon (Le Cabaret Grimm), Graham Skipper (Re-Animator The Musical), and Morgan Weed (Swing State).
Baby Case received awards for Excellence in Writing (Michael Ogborn for Music and Lyrics), Excellence in Direction (Jeremy Dobrish), as well as the “Best of Fest” Audience Prize. A Letter To Harvey Milk received awards for Excellence in Writing – Lyrics (Ellen M. Schwartz), Excellence in Writing – Book (Jerry James), and the Most Promising Musical Award. Prison Dancer received awards for Excellence in Choreography (Jenn Rapp) and Outstanding Ensemble Performance.
Other awards included Excellence in Production Design for Le Cabaret Grimm (Kendra Bell and Aaron Sherkow), Outstanding Orchestration for Foreverman (Stephen Ferri, Andrew Fox, and Adam Michael Kaufman), and Riley Thomas received the Theater for the American Musical Prize for writing Stuck.
