Standing on Ceremony: The Gay Marriage Plays opened Off-Broadway at the Minetta Lane Theatre on Sunday, November 13.
This evening of one-act plays, conceived by Brian Shnipper, includes works addressing the subject of same-sex marriage, written by playwrights including Mo Gaffney, Jordan Harrison, Moisés Kaufman, Neil LaBute, Wendy MacLeod, José Rivera, Paul Rudnick, and Doug Wright.
The cast features Craig Bierko, Mark Consuelos, Polly Draper, Harriet Harris, Beth Leavel, and Richard Thomas.
Among the opening night guests were David Clement, Andy Cohen, Linda Hart, Cheng He, Hunter Ryan Herdlicka, Larry Kramer, Jeffrey LaHoste, Howard McGillin, David Hyde Pierce, Kelly Ripa, Richard Sampson, Jessica and Jerry Seinfeld, David Webster, and Evan Wolfson.
The production is partnering with Freedom to Marry, the campaign to win marriage nationwide, and will donate a portion of all ticket sales to that organization, as well as others promoting marriage equality.
