Cirque du Soleil’s new show
Banana Shpeel, performing at the
Beacon Theatre, opened last night, May 19.
Among the opening night guests were In the Heights‘ Corbin Bleu, stage and screen star James Gandolfini, Tony Award winner Marcia Gay Harden, Rock of Ages‘ Ericka Hunter, Ugly Betty‘s Mark Indelicato, Rock of Ages star Constantine Maroulis, Law and Order: SVU‘s Chris Meloni, Rock of Ages‘ Angel Reed, Gossip Girl and Chicago star Matthew Settle, and Fringe star Anna Torv.
David Shiner has written and directed Banana Shpeel, which features Danny Rutigliano, Daniel Passer, Wayne Wilson, Shereen Hickman, Claudio Carneiro, Patrick de Valette, Gordon White, Dmitry Bulkin, Tuan Le, Vanessa Alvarez, Preston Jamieson, Kesley Wiens, Tsybenova Ayagma, Tsydendambaeva Imin, Zhambalova Lilia, and Joseph and Josette Wiggan.
The creative team includes artistic guides Guy Laliberté and Gilles Ste-Croix; director of creation Serge Roy; composer and arranger Simon Carpentier; choreographer Jared Grimes; costume designer Dominique Lemieux; set designer and props co-designer Patricia Ruel; props co-designer Jasmine Catudal; lighting designer Bruno Rafie; sound designer Harvey Robitaille; and make-up designer Eleni Uranis.
