Patti LuPone and Laurie Metcalf will star in the American premiere of David Mamet's new play The Anarchist, which is scheduled to open on Broadway in Fall 2012. Mamet will direct.

The play -- about politics, money, religion and sex -- will pit a female inmate pleading for parole against the prison's female governor. Jeffrey Richards and Jerry Frankel will be the Broadway producers.

LuPone has won Tony Awards for her performances in Evita and Gypsy. Among her other Broadway credits are The Robber Bridegroom, Master Class, The Old Neighborhood, Anything Goes, Sweeney Todd, and Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown. She returns to the Great White Way later this month in the theatrical concert, An Evening with Patti LuPone and Mandy Patinkin.

Metcalf received a Tony Award nomination for her performance in David Mamet's November, and an Ovation Award nomination for Voice Lessons. Among her other recent stage credits are her Obie Award-winning turns in The Other Place and A Lie of the Mind. She is perhaps best known for her work on Roseanne, and will be appearing in a London production of Long Day's Journey Into Night in Spring 2012.
