Obie Winner Alice Playten Has Died

Actress Alice Playten has died in New York City at age 63, due to heart failure, according to reports.

Playten received a Theatre World Award and a Tony Award nomination for the musical Henry, Sweet Henry, and later earned Obie Awards for her work in National Lampoon’s Lemmings and First Lady Suite.

Her many stage credits include Gypsy, Oliver!, Hello, Dolly!, Rumors, Seussical, Caroline, or Change, Promenade, Spoils of War, and The Oldsmobiles.


Her many film and television credits include I.Q., Legend, The Lost Saucer, Frasier, and As the World Turns.

She is survived by her husband, Joshua White.
