As usual, Monday night was full of star-studded events all over town. At the Roosevelt Hotel, All My Children stars Cameron Mathison and Susan Lucci hosted Point Honors…New York, which benefits the Point Foundation, the nation’s largest scholarship-granting organization for LGBT students.
Judith Light and (a visibly pregnant) Ana Ortiz, two of the stars of ABC’s just-returned Ugly Betty, were on hand to honor series creator Silvio Horta.
Broadway legend Arthur Laurents, the evening’s other honoree, was saluted by four-time Tony Award winner Angela Lansbury, now starring in the Broadway revival of Blithe Spirit.
Tony winner Leslie Uggams, who is set to star later this year in the Michigan Opera’s production of A Little Night Music, was another of the celebrities at the event.
The Atlantic Theater Company — which is being honored next month with a special Drama Desk Award — held its Spring gala, entitled An Evening of Unexpected Musical Adaptations, at Gotham Hall. Company co-founder William H. Macy and his beautiful wife, Desperate Housewives star Felicity Huffman, were among the luminaries present at the event.
Artistic director Neil Pepe and wife Mary McCann were another glamorous couple.
Here’s another terrific twosome: Emmy Award winner Ted Danson and Oscar winner Mary Steenburgen.
Another Oscar winner, Keith Carradine, came with his daughter, Martha Plimpton, a Drama Desk Award (and likely Tony Award) nominee for her work in Pal Joey.
Raul Esparza worked earlier this year with Macy in Pepe’s revival of David Mamet’s Speed-the-Plow, for which he has received a Drama Desk Award nomination for Best Actor in a Play.
At Carnegie Hall, the New York Pops’ held its 26th Birthday Gala, which included a salute to the 10th anniversary of the nightclub Feinstein’s at the Regency. Superstar Liza Minnelli came out to surprise club owner (and best friend) Michael Feinstein — much to the delight of the evening’s host, journalist Liz Smith, and Regency Hotel owner Jonathan Tisch.
After the show, the Pops’ new conductor Steven Reineke posed with Cheyenne Jackson, who did an amazing version of Anthony Newley and Leslie Bricusse’s “Feelin’ Good.”
R&B superstars Ashford & Simpson brought down the house with their megahit “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.”
The evening also included the world premiere of the gorgeous “American River Suite” written by William Schermerhorn (far left) and Ragtime composer Stephen Flaherty, and brilliantly performed by Tony winners Idina Menzel and Anika Noni Rose.
The Play Company’s annual Cabaret Gourmet benefit, held this year at the American Airlines Theatre Penthouse, featured a performance by Broadway and cabaret favorite Karen Akers.
Finally, here’s a shot from the Italian Embassy in Washington, D.C. where the fabulous Bernadette Peters joined great pal Stephen Sondheim, who accepted the Signature Theatre’s first annual Sondheim Award.
