Maurice Hines Receives Sardi's Caricature
Tony nominee and legendary Broadway performer Maurice Hines, who is currently starring off-Broadway in his own autobiographical solo show Tappin’ Thru Life at New World Stages, has received one of Broadway's highest honors: a Sardi's caricature. Hines took his first look at the portrait at an event yesterday, February 17.
Maurice and his brother — the late, great Gregory Hines — began working when they were five and three years old, respectively. Throughout his show, Hines shares funny and heartbreaking experiences about his life with Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Duke Ellington, Lena Horne, Judy Garland, and many others in a tribute to his loving family, both onstage and off.
Hines' Broadway career has included The Girl in Pink Tights, Eubie!, Sophisticated Ladies, and Bring Back Birdie. In 1986 Hines was nominated for a Tony Award for his role in Uptown…It's Hot! His most recent Broadway credit was Hot Feet in 2006, which Hines conceived, directed, and choreographed.
