I Call My Brothers Offers a Post-Performance Discussion on February 21
"Stop and frisk" is among the topics of debate that playwright Jonas Hassen Khemiri addresses in his politically charged play.
The discussion will continue the themes in Khemiri's play, which addresses the recent legal challenges to New York City's "stop and frisk" policy and the NYPD's Muslim Surveillance Program. Guest panelists will include Vincent Warren from the Center of Constitutional Rights and Hina Shamsi from the ACLU. The event is free and open to the public and will begin at approximately 8:45pm.
I Call My Brothers is set the day after a car bombing in midtown New York. As Amor travels through the city on his way to a hardware store, he feels as if he is being followed and watched amid the community's tense aftermath. Erica Schmidt directs the production, starring Rachid Sabitri, Francis Benhamou, Damon Owlia, and Dahlia Azama.
