The producers of the Broadway production of August Wilson's Fences have announced that the production has recouped its $2.8 million capitalization after only eight weeks of performances, during the week ending June 13, 2010. The play is scheduled to conclude its limited run on June 13 at the Cort Theatre.

Directed by Kenny Leon, the play takes place over eight years from 1957 to 1965 and focuses on a Pittsburgh sanitation worker who once dreamed of a baseball career, but was too old when the major leagues finally admitted black players.

The company features two-time Academy Award winner Denzel Washington (Troy) and Tony Award winner Viola Davis (Rose), along with Chris Chalk (Cory), Stephen McKinley Henderson (Jim Bono), Russell Hornsby (Lyons) and Mykelti Williamson (Gabriel). Eden Duncan-Smith and SaCha Stewart-Coleman alternate in the role of Raynell.

The creative team includes Santo Loquasto (set design), Constanza Romero (costume design), Brian MacDevitt (lighting design), and ACME Sound Partners (sound design), along with Brandford Marsalis, who has composed original music.

Fences is nominated for ten 2010 Tony Awards, including Best Revival of a Play, actors Washington, Davis, and Henderson, director Leon, and for its entire design team.
