Fantasies Come True: (Off-) Broadway's Avenue Q Turns Double Digits
On the 10th Anniversary of the show's Broadway opening, celebrate with a look at worldwide productions of this Tony Award-winning musical.
A lot can happen in ten years. A beloved television star could die. A president could come and go from office. And a little show about the intermingling of humans and puppets could exceed expectations by winning three Tony Awards and playing profitable runs on and off Broadway and around the world.
Such is the case with Avenue Q, which celebrates the tenth anniversary of its Broadway opening today, July 31. It may not be running at the John Golden Theatre anymore, but it is playing, incredibly successfully, at New World Stages, and set a trend of other productions moving to more intimate digs to prolong their respective lifespans.
Avenue Q has also played successful runs in dozens of countries internationally. Not bad for a show where they sing about porn, racism, and Gary Coleman.
So celebrate Avenue Q's silver anniversary with these videos of the little musical that could, strutting its stuff across the world.
